Description

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Dental caries is one of the most common human diseases.

The early diagnosis of the caries decay could prevent the consequences secondary to the extension of the decay to the tooth structures and pulp and hence the further complicated treatment or even loss of the tooth.

Diagnostic tools such as dental radiographs play an important role in detecting early caries and can predict the prognosis of the decayed tooth. However, the radiologic diagnosis of the caries needs a comprehensive understanding of the different appearances of the carious lesions and differential diagnosis with other similar resorptive processes as well as the normal anatomy and artifacts.

In this online course, different appearances of the caries and radiologic limitations and abilities for their diagnosis will be discussed.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

This course aims to review the previous knowledge of the dentists about the caries detection on radiographs will help the dentists:
1. To know how to better visualize the dental decays in analog and digital radiographs (through proprietary or third-party software).
2. To know the advantages and disadvantages/limitations of the different dental imaging for detecting caries.
3. To differentiate the other similar appearances from the carious decays.
